When payments are made to MarineWales.com, we regard security and convenience as top priorities; this is why we use companies that are experts in these fields for all payments, including PayPal, Protx and/or Barclaycard.
If you use a web based payment page to pay for an enhanced listing, place an advertisement, list items for sale in the marketplace, or renew membership subscriptions the credit/debit card details you submit are encapsulated using PayPal or Protx’s encrypted and digitally-signed protocol, before they are passed for processing. This entire process is done using Secure Socket Layer (SSL), the industry standard for transmitting confidential information on the web using data encryption, ensuring that the information passed on to us is secure and tamper-proof. However SSL has been designed to work with Mozilla and Explorer browsers and you will need to have at least Netscape Navigator 3 or Internet Explorer 3 to take advantage of this added security.

Use of Information Obtained by MarineWales
When you register with MarineWales, you create your own profile and privacy settings. Your profile information is used by MarineWales primarily to be presented back to and edited by you when you access the service and to be presented to others permitted to view that information by your privacy settings. In some specific cases and where your privacy settings permit it, other MarineWales users may be able to supplement your profile, such as tagging you in a photo or posting items to your wall.
Profile information that you submit to MarineWales will be available to users of MarineWales who you allow to access through your privacy settings. Your name, location, and profile picture thumbnail will be available in search results across the MarineWales network and may be made available to third party search engines. This is primarily so people you know can find you and send a connection request. People who see your name in searches, however, will not be able to access your profile information unless they are a registered user and/or have a relationship to you (friend, member of your club, etc.) that allows such access based on your privacy settings.
MarineWales may use information in your profile without identifying you as an individual to third parties. We do this for purposes such as aggregating how members in club or region rate an activity or supplier and to personalise advertisements and promotions. We may also use information about you that we collect from other sources to supplement your profile, including but not limited to newspapers and Internet sources such as blogs, RSS feeds, instant messaging services, other social networks, platform developers and other users of MarineWales. Where such information is used, we generally allow you to specify in your privacy settings that you do not want this to be done or to take other actions that limit the connection of this information to your profile.
To support and encourage development of the MarineWales community all registered users can send one-2-one emails message from a member’s profile listing. This facility can be blocked at any time by the user themselves and will be removed from anyone who abuses this privilege.
MarineWales may occasionally use your name and email address to send you notifications regarding new services offered by MarineWales that we think you may find valuable. We may also send you service-related announcements from time to time through the general operation of the service. For instance, if a friend sends you a new message, if someone becomes a follower, or if anyone posts on your wall, you may receive an email alerting you to that fact. Generally, you may opt out of such emails, though MarineWales reserves the right to send you notices about your account even if you opt out of all voluntary email notifications.
